What is Ford Certified Pre-Owned?

If you are thinking about buying a Ford truck, then you should consider a vehicle marked Ford Certified Pre-Owned. Afterall, buying a used vehicle is a great way to save some money on an F-150 or another of Ford’s excellent pickups and Certified Pre-Owned, or CPO, programs are well-known for being the highest quality used vehicles. But you might not be aware of just how much care goes into our Ford Certified Pre-Owned vehicles or of all the additional benefits that a CPO truck offers. So if you want to know more about what sets CPO Ford trucks apart from your average used vehicle, then keep reading because we have all the details.
The Cream of the Crop
To begin with, not any used Ford truck that passes through our lot is qualified to be sold as Ford Certified Pre-Owned. Only vehicles that are six years old or less and have under 80,000 miles on the odometer can even be considered for inclusion in our CPO program. Given that the average vehicle currently on the road is almost twelve years old and likely has around 160,000 miles on it, this means that even the oldest of our CPO trucks have lots of life left in them. However, the vast majority of the Ford Certified Pre-Owned trucks that we sell are only a few years old with much lower mileage. But the age and mileage restrictions are only the first step we take in weeding out possible candidates.
The next thing we do is run a vehicle history report through CARFAX. This service tells us the full history of the vehicle and flags issues that could potentially cause problems down the road. In order to be sold as a CPO, Ford trucks must have a completely clean vehicle history. This not only means no major problems such as a salvage title or frame damage but even possibly minor issues like a claimed accident or reported damage is enough to rule out a vehicle being sold under the Ford Certified Pre-Owned label. When going through the report, we also make a note of any service recalls that need to be performed and what scheduled maintenance has occurred. If you are interested in seeing the vehicle history report of any CPO Ford trucks that you are considering, we are happy to provide you with the full CARFAX report. Alternatively, you can view the report of any Ford Certified Pre-Owned vehicle currently on the market at Ford’s official website.

Ford’s 172-Point Inspection
Once a used truck has been deemed eligible for the Ford Certified Pre-Owned program, it is then put through an intensive 172-point inspection by our factory-trained service technicians. During this inspection, all the worn and damaged parts we find are replaced with new factory parts to make sure that the vehicle is in top mechanical condition before it is put up for sale. We know that this is particularly important when it comes to trucks, as they tend to live harder lives than cars, and they need to be completely reliable when you are out on the job. If you want to see every item that is covered in our 172-point inspection, then we will be happy to give you the full list.
A brief overview is that the 172-point inspection covers every inch of the truck and includes a thorough road test as well as a garage examination. First, we check the major mechanical components, including the engine, transmission, and suspension, to ensure that the vehicle is running perfectly. Then we follow with a detailed inside and outside inspection to make sure that the truck meets our standards and that every feature on it from the headlights to tailgate is working correctly. As part of this inspection, we also check for any hidden damage that may not have been included in the official vehicle history report. Finally, we top off the fluids, make sure that it has a full set of keys and owners manuals, and give the truck a full tank of gas. Only then will we finally mark it as being ready for sale as a Ford Certified Pre-Owned vehicle.
Ford CPO Warranties
Buying a CPO Ford truck does not just mean that you are getting a vehicle that is lightly used and in known good mechanical shape. After all, while it may take a lot of looking and a good mechanic that you can trust, it is possible to get close to meeting our stringent requirements and inspection with a non-certified used vehicle. But only a truck sold under the Ford Certified Pre-Owned program will receive two new manufacturer warranties. We understand that a new truck is a major expense, and we want you to be assured that if you buy one of our CPO vehicles, then your new dream purchase will never become a nightmare.
The first of these warranties is the 12-month or 12,000-mile Comprehensive Limited Warranty. This covers every major system in your truck from the engine and drivetrain to the climate control and infotainment. It is effectively our guarantee that the vehicle has zero outstanding issues when it is sold. If we missed something or if anything goes wrong with the truck over the next year, it will be covered by this warranty. But rest assured, given how much work we put into selecting and inspecting our CPO vehicles, very few of our customers have ever needed to have their purchases covered under this warranty. Buying a CPO Ford truck will give you the same vaunted reliability of a brand new model.
To show how much we believe in the reliability of our CPO trucks, they also come with a 7-year or 100,000-mile Powertrain Limited Warranty. This is a significant extension of the standard 5-year or 60,000-mile warranty for all new Ford vehicles and covers the major mechanical systems of your truck, such as the engine or transmission. Should the worst happen and one of these expensive components fails, this warranty means you will be back on the road without a worry. And, of course, should you choose one of our newer Ford Certified Pre-Owned vehicles, you will also be entitled to whatever coverage remains on the original factory warranty.

And the exclusive benefits of purchasing a Ford Certified Pre-Owned vehicle do not end with just its two factory warranties. All CPO Ford trucks also come with free 24-Hour Roadside Assistance for the same 7-year or 100,000-mile period as the Powertrain Limited Warranty. If something goes wrong and you need help, we are there for you. From accidental lockouts and dead batteries to flat-tire changes and towing, our 24-Hour Roadside Assistance provides you with peace of mind when you are on the road. Finally, buying a Ford CPO vehicle will give you 22,000 FordPass Rewards Points. These points can be redeemed here at King’s Ford or at other participating dealerships for discounts on service, parts, and accessories or even to take a bit off the price of your next new or Certified Pre-Owned Ford vehicle.
