You have six engine choices available to you with the 2020 Ford F-150, which gives you a lot of freedom in configuring the perfect pickup for your needs. Most of these are standard gas engines, but there is also a diesel option if you prefer a diesel engine. Two of the engine options are also really one engine available as two different versions, one of which offers greater horsepower and torque.
Your first option with the 2020 Ford F-150 is a 3.3L Ti-VCT V6 engine, which provides up to 290 hp and 265 lb-ft of torque, which is excellent as a starting engine in a full-size pickup. This engine is paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission and is what you will find as the standard engine on starting trims. An available 2.7L EcoBoost V6 engine offers up to 325 hp and 400 lb-ft of torque if you need better performance with your F-150.
There is also an available 5.0L Ti-VCT V8 engine, which provides up to 395 hp and 400 lb-ft of torque and comes paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission. Although this is not the most powerful engine available for the F-150 in terms of pure output, it is your best choice if you are most interested in getting maximum payload on this truck. There is also a 3.0L Power Stroke Turbo-Diesel V6 engine available on the 2020 Ford F-150, which provides up to 250 hp and 440 lb-ft of torque. This is the only diesel engine available on the F-150, and it has excellent fuel economy, getting an estimated 22 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway.
The last option for an engine in the F-150 is a 3.5L EcoBoost V6 engine, which offers up to 375 hp and 470 lb-ft of torque. This is the engine that is available with a second configuration: a High-Output design that provides up to 450 hp and 510 lb-ft of torque. If raw horsepower and torque are your major concerns, then this is the engine to choose, offering the highest numbers of any of the engines on the 2020 Ford F-150.
One of the biggest reasons to choose a full-size truck like the 2020 Ford F-150 is for the incredible towing capacity and maximum payload that it can have. Because there are so many trims and engines available on the F-150, you can get very different amounts of towing and payload, depending on how you configure your pickup. Keep that in mind while considering the numbers on this truck to exactly what you need. If you find you need more towing or payload than the F-150 can deliver, then take a look at the Ford Super Duty pickups.
Maximum towing for the 2020 Ford F-150 peaks at 13,200 lbs if you configure it properly; this level of towing requires the XL trim, with the available 3.5L V6 engine, a SuperCrew cab, and the 6-foot box with the Max Trailer Tow Package. Other configurations still get excellent towing, but the numbers do change, often by only one or two thousand pounds of capacity. The lowest max towing you can get with the Ford F-150, if that is not your primary concern, is 5,000 lbs of towing, so if that works for you, then any F-150 will be a great choice.
Your choice of trim, engine, and overall configuration will also impact your maximum payload on the 2020 Ford F-150, as each of these things alters the weight of your truck before it is loaded up with other cargo. To get the very best payload capacity possible, you need to choose the XL trim with the available 5.0L V8 engine and a regular cab, which gives you up to 3,270 lbs. of available payload. Other trims and options will alter this amount, though often not by a huge amount, usually a few hundred pounds.
Although the 2020 Ford F-150 has all the power you would expect from a rugged workhorse, there are also plenty of sophisticated and luxurious options to be found inside its cabin. Many of these will depend on which trim you check out, as you would expect, but there are still plenty of options available at each level. To keep things simple, here are the features and some options available with the Limited, the F-150’s top-tier trim.
If you choose the SuperCrew cab, then the 2020 Ford F-150 Limited comes with a twin panel moonroof to really show off the sky overhead. It also features dual-zone electronic automatic temperature control, wood interior accents for a more sophisticated look, and a leather-wrapped, heated steering wheel with driver controls. The front passenger and driver seats are both heated and ventilated, with 10-way power adjustability.
The F-150 Limited also features ambient lighting that makes for a more enjoyable atmosphere in the evening and while driving at night, along with an 8-inch productivity display for the driver. Rain-sensing wipers and an auto-dimming rearview mirror are great convenience features in the Limited, which also has numerous USB ports and power outlets for you to plug into as needed. The Limited features a 10-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system, along with voice-activated navigation and power-adjustable pedals with driver memory for a fantastic overall driving experience.
The safety features on the 2020 Ford F-150 are excellent and ensure you stay safe on the road no matter what kind of work you need to get done. The Pro Trailer Backup Assist system makes it easy to back up with a trailer connected to the F-150, allowing you to adjust the trailer’s direction with the turn of a knob, for precision and easy navigation. There is also a blind spot information system with cross-traffic alert, which features trailer coverage so you can stay aware of other drivers in your blind spot even while towing a large trailer behind you.
A full suite of airbags throughout the inside of the F-150 also helps keep you safe, including front airbags, seat-mounted side impact airbags, and a safety canopy of side curtain airbags. The 2020 Ford F-150 also features available auto high-beam headlamps that sense oncoming traffic and dim to avoid blinding other drivers, as well as an available lane-keeping system. Other available safety features include pre-collision assist with automatic emergency braking to help you avoid a collision, and adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go functionality.
