  • Performance

A blue 2020 Ford Edge ST is driving on a Cincinnati, OH, street at night.

Ford has made great strides in recent years with its powerful I4 engines. Just a few years ago, you'd be justified to laugh at the idea of a mid-size SUV using an I4 engine. You may have your own experience in an old four-cylinder, attempting to merge on the highway with your foot all the way down on the pedal. The car was coughing and struggling to get up to speed, all while semis are barreling down on you. Those old I4 engine cars were enough to make you swear off driving. Well, times have changed, and Ford has packed an impressive punch into its engines.

    Ford Edge Engines

The base trim of the 2020 Ford Edge comes with an intercooled turbo 2.0L I-4 that produces 250 hp and 275 lb-ft of torque. These numbers will never disappoint, and you'll even net 29 miles per gallon on the highway and 21 miles per gallon in the city.

Maybe you'd still like a bit more power and performance. Sure thing. The ST trim comes standard with a 2.7L twin-turbo V6. This engine will up your horsepower to 335 and your torque to a solid 380 lb-ft. And even with an engine that's putting out some substantial numbers, you will net yourself 26 miles per gallon on the highway and 19 miles per gallon in the city.

  • Technology

The lit up steering wheel and dashboard is shown of a 2020 Ford Edge at night.

Technology is advancing quickly in the world, which means cars are becoming more technologically advanced as well. Some of these technology features are for pure entertainment during your dreaded drive home from work. Other features are geared towards making your life a little easier. The Ford Edge has technology for both purposes; let's look into it.

    Entertainment During the Drive

The base trim of the Edge has an entertainment system that includes AM/FM radio, an AUX input so that you can use your smartphone to play music through the car, and MP3 compatibility. If you upgrade and purchase the Ford SYNC system, you will not be sorry. This system allows you to easily pair to your phone via Bluetooth thanks to the supported Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. It also comes with an available WiFi hotspot. Want to splurge a bit? Why not consider the optional entertainment system?

When you compare the base Ford Edge with other base SUVs out there, you will find few come anywhere close to the kind of entertainment features offered. Plus, if you opt for the top-tier trim, you will get new level technology with a premium sound system and navigational system.

    Convenient Technology Features

Ford wants your experience with the Edge to be as smooth and seamless as possible, which is why they have included lots of extra features. These features include remote engine start, rain-sensing wipers, power mirrors, keyless entry, steering wheel controls, and auto-off headlights. The top-tier trim will come with all of these features, plus fog lamps for extra visibility, a power liftgate, remote trunk release, heated mirrors, a universal garage door opener, and a hands-free liftgate. If you've ever tried to lug all the bags from the grocery store at once only to realize you don't have free fingers to lift open the rear of your vehicle, you know just how vital the hands-free liftgate feature is. Ford has gone above and beyond with making your driving experience simple, just the way it should be.

  • Towing and Cargo Space

A woman is standing next to the open liftgate of her tan 2020 Ford Edge and there is luggage in the cargo area.

The Edge wouldn't be much of an SUV if it didn't give you a large towing capacity and lots of cargo space. After all, one of the reasons you're shopping for an SUV is because you want the added space. And when you have an engine that can produce 380 lb-ft of torque, you do have the sheer performance to trailer up some gear.

Just how much can you pull with your Ford Edge? If you go with the I4 engine, you're going to have a towing capacity of up to 1,500 pounds. Should you go with the V6, the towing capacity does jump up to 3,500 pounds. Now, if you're interested in an SUV that can tow a bit more, don't worry, we have those in stock here at Kings Ford as well. The Ford Explorer may be something you'd want to look into, as it is just slightly larger than the Edge and can tow up to 5,600 pounds. However, the towing capacity of the Edge alone is substantial.

As for cargo space, when all of the seats are locked in the upright position, you will have 39.2 cubic feet of cargo space. Should you fold down the back seat, the cargo volume will increase to 73.4 cubic feet. This is a ton of extra room for luggage, but it also means that when passengers are utilizing those seats, they have a lot of room as well.

  • Safety

You should never be forced to pay extra for standard safety features. While the competition may make you do this, Ford certainly doesn't. A car if not worth anything if it does not keep you and your passengers safe. Safety should not be something you're required to pay thousands of dollars more to get. That is why the Ford Edge comes with an extensive list of base safety features.

An Edge in Safety on the Competition

There are several tech-infused safety features you will love. Thanks to the assortment of cameras and sensors built into the Ford Edge, the vehicle can sense when there are other vehicles around it. With these sensors, it can also detect the speed and predict what these vehicles might do. For example, there is the pre-collision assist with auto emergency braking. This feature will monitor what cars around you are doing and, when necessary, engage the brakes if the vehicles suddenly brake or swerve in front of you. The same technology is used for adaptive cruise control. Cruise control is a nice feature, at least until you get into some traffic. When this happens, you usually have to disengage cruise control and adjust your speed accordingly. Well, with this feature, the Ford Edge will automatically detect the speeds of the vehicles around you and adapt your cruising speed accordingly, making your drive that much more comfortable.

Other various safety features for the Ford Edge include driver, front head, front side, passenger and rear head airbags, four-wheel ABS and disc brakes, brake assist, lane-keeping assist, electronic stability control, daytime running lights, blind-spot monitoring, traction control, cross-traffic alert, and lane departure warning. All of these features amount to an extremely safe vehicle for you, your family, and friends. This is important because safety should always come first.
