There are four great powertrain options to choose from on the new 2024 Ford Escape. Each one has its own blend of power and efficiency. Depending on whether you want some extra oomph on the road with AWD or whether you are trying to save the maximum amount of money you can at the pump, one of these options will be right for you.
The base model of the 2024 Ford Escape comes with a 1.5L EcoBoost Turbo I-3. This engine creates 180 hp and 199 lb-ft of torque. If you have an FWD drivetrain equipped, you can expect an EPA-estimated 27 MPG in the city and 34 MPG when you’re driving on the highway. If you upgrade to AWD, your fuel economy lowers slightly to 26 MPG for city driving and 32 MPG on the highway—still solid ratings to get that extra bit of traction and control on the road.
The next level up is a 2.0L EcoBoost Turbo I-4 engine, which makes a robust 250 hp and 280 lb-ft of torque to get you where you need to go with more acceleration and power. This engine is only available with an AWD drivetrain, and it gets an EPA-estimated 23 MPG in the city and 31 MPG on the highway. This is the most powerful of the engine options and the best one if you’re planning on towing significant payloads.
Ford is on the cutting edge of hybrid vehicles. They’ve included two different hybrid engine options—one a HEV and the other a PHEV—to cater to folks who want to reduce their emissions and save money at the pump. The traditional hybrid engine is a 2.5L I-4 HEV, which creates 192 hp and gets an EPA-estimated 42 MPG in the city and 36 MPG on the highway in FWD. This HEV engine combines a regular combustion engine with a battery pack, and it uses regenerative braking to channel expended kinetic energy back into the battery.
Unlike the HEV, the PHEV powertrain's battery is recharged by plugging it into a wall outlet or charging unit. This 2.5L I-4 14.4-kWh PHEV engine creates an impressive 210 hp. It comes strictly in FWD (whereas the HEV also has AWD available) and can get up to 37 miles of all-electric range, while its fuel economy is an EPA-estimated 105 MPGe!
All of the different engines and trim levels of the 2024 Ford Escape are capable of towing significant payloads. On the base model, you can tow 2,000 lbs. The upgraded 2.0L EcoBoost Turbo I-4 engine is able to tow the most, at 3,500 lbs. Even the HEV and PHEV engines offer towing capabilities, too, both towing a maximum of 1,500 lbs. No matter which Ford Escape you choose, you’ll be ready to hitch your trailer and hit the road!
The 2024 Ford Escape sets the standard for modern compact SUV styling. It has a sleek and aerodynamic profile that reduces drag and boosts efficiency ratings. Its aerodynamic design also makes it a quieter ride, even at top speeds on the highway, contributing to its comfortable driving experience.
On the front, you’ll see the Escape’s bold front fascia with a distinctive grille that helps keep the engine cool. Along the top of the grille is a ‘coast-to-coast’ LED bar that is distinctive and immediately recognizable on the road. In fact, all lighting on the exterior of the Escape this year is LED, so you’ll be able to see the road ahead, and others on the road will be able to see you for added safety. This is especially important if you’re planning to go on any adventures at night or commute when it’s foggy or rainy.
The 2024 Ford Escape is designed with functionality first, so you’ll find lots of practical add-ons available that give the design a feeling of preparedness. These include things like roof rails and a rear spoiler. The wheel options on the Escape also start practical and climb in style the higher the trim you opt for; the top trims come available with larger and more elaborate wheels so you can show your unique style and customize your Escape.
This compact SUV boasts a solid amount of cargo space, so you can start your adventures faster without worrying about how to pack it all in. In the back, you’ll find 37.5 cu.ft. of cargo space! That’s nearly eight suitcases or 35 grocery bags worth of room! If, for some reason, that isn’t enough, say you need to haul bulky sporting equipment or something oddly shaped for a DIY project at home, just fold down the back seats and immediately get 65.4 cu.ft. of cargo area!
The total cargo space is slightly less on the HEV and PHEV models, as a battery under the floor condenses the interior rear space. In the two hybrid models, you’ll get 37.5 cu.ft. of space with all seats up and 65.4 cu.ft. when you lower the back row.
Ford has equipped the 2024 Ford Escape with all the latest technology features. Whether you’re just trying to make it through your commute or are on a long road trip with your family, there is no shortage of entertainment options for you in this SUV.
Being able to plug in your smartphone has become standard these days, so Ford has upped the ante by including wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard features. With these apps, you can seamlessly connect your smartphone and pilot it from the center touchscreen to access your favorite music, streaming services, messaging, and navigation applications. And since there is wireless charging available in the Escape, too, you never have to mess around with pesky cords while you’re driving.
An 8.0-inch digital infotainment display is standard on the Ford Escape, but it can be upgraded to a 13.2-inch screen for folks who want a more prominent display. There is also an available B&O sound system featuring ten speakers and even a subwoofer! This will make you feel like you’re at your own personal concert, no matter where the road takes you.
If connectivity is a priority for you, add an available 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot with FordPass Connect5 for you to connect up to ten devices at once! This works up to 50 feet away—a real asset if you frequently travel outside of the city or go camping and want to stay connected. Just because you’re traveling doesn’t mean you need to disconnect from the people and projects that are part of your life.
Every 2024 Ford Escape comes with Ford’s innovative suite of advanced safety features. These help the driver should they become distracted or maybe don’t see an obstacle on the road. Some work in the background, while others make audible alerts when a risk is detected. Some of the available features in the Ford Co-Pilot360 suite include Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB), Blind Spot Information System (BLIS), Lane-Keeping System, Rear View Camera, Auto High Beams, Adaptive Cruise Control, Evasive Steering Assist, Post-Collision Braking, Cross-Traffic Alert, and Pre-Collision Assist with Pedestrian Detection.
