At first, all of these options seem like a good thing. After all, the more options you have, the more likely you are to find something that will work for you. Unfortunately, it is easy to quickly realize just how difficult the task is. All the options will be different. Different conditions, price points, owners, histories, and more will all influence whether one possibility is right for you or not.

Even narrowing it down to a specific brand like Ford can still be tough. Used Fords for sale are some of the most reliable on the roads today. Cars and trucks with hundreds of thousands of miles on them can still run just as well as they did when coming off of the lot in the first place.

If you know you want a Ford vehicle but can’t decide on what to keep an eye out for, the following list is for you. While any used Ford is a good option, depending on its history and condition, we are partial to a few select models throughout Ford’s history you should consider.

Ford Flex

If you are looking for a used full-size crossover SUV, the Flex is a good option to consider. One of the newer models in the Ford lineup, the Flex came out in 2009 along with a generation update in 2013. Since the model is less than a decade old, most used options you are likely to encounter will have many of the features new vehicles have today. Prices won’t be as low as older models, but this is a good place to start for people wanting a like-new option without the larger price tag.

Common features include V6 engines, all wheel drive, leather interiors, backup cameras, and automatic parking starting with the 2012 models. The interior is square and spacious, perfect for larger families of up to seven or eight people.

Ford Fusion

Another relatively new model in the Ford lineup, the Fusion is a four-door, five-passenger sedan that offers most of what smaller families are seeking in a daily commuter. The car came out in 2006 with two different generations and multiple trims. The convenience and safety features get more advanced with the later generation, but most used vehicles you may find will come with a fuel efficient four-cylinder engine, audio system with CD player, manual or automatic transmission, and more.

This is a great model to check out if you want a used hybrid as well. Starting in 2010, the Fusion Hybrid gets around 41 city and 36 highway MPG. This model year offered better performance than competitive options like the Camry and Altima hybrids.

Ford Taurus

The Taurus has been one of the most popular Ford models in the company’s history. Since 1986, this midsize sedan has solidified Ford’s spot in the competitive family car market by offering a reliable engine/drivetrain platform, top-notch features throughout the six generations, and high safety marks. Given the longer history of the Taurus, you are likely to find used vehicles ranging in age.

Cars after the 2008 model year are more likely to sport more modern conveniences and safety features such as all-wheel drive, six-cylinder engines, and a six-speed automatic transmission. The current model year stretches back to 2010 with a 2013 generation refresh. Cross traffic alerts, collision warning, blind spot monitoring, and other modern safety systems are common on these used models.

Ford Crown Victoria

The popular model for police cars all over the US is also a somewhat surprisingly reliable used vehicle to consider. The Ford Crown Victoria is the company’s no-frills model that spanned two generations before its discontinuation in 2011. For the best results, it’s best to focus on the second generation (starting in 1998) to find a vehicle with more modern features.

Newer is better when considering this model as a viable used option. For the last major revision of the model, the 2009 version introduced the most modern safety features such as side-impact airbags.

Ford Mustang

What would a used car list be without a little bit of sport? The Ford Mustang is a classic in the true sense of the word. For people wanting an actual American-made muscle car, you can look all the way back to the first 1963 model year to find an authentic option. Since that time, Ford has offered six generations of this vehicle, all with the focus of high performance and maneuvering.

Anyone wanting a more family-friendly, modern version of the Mustang should stick with the fifth generation (2005) and above. The current generation started in 2015 and commonly includes different engine options ranging from fuel-efficient four-cylinders to power-hungry V6 and V8 versions. Later models also have excellent safety ratings and updated safety features to meet current standards.

Ford F-150

There is simply no other option for anyone wanting a Ford truck. The F-150 line has been the premier American truck for decades. Spanning a mind-blowing thirteen generations, Ford hit the right note with the very first model in 1948. Since then, millions of owners have counted on the truck’s reliability and high towing capacity for on-the-job driving and the daily commute alike.

It’s hard to find a bad used F-150, but it is a safer bet if you stick with the eleventh generation (2004-2009) and above. The whole range of the F-150’s offerings, such as different cab and bed sizes, V6 and V8 engine options, and minor interior features, can be found on the used market. The twelfth and thirteenth generations emphasized fuel economy to make the truck a reliable daily commuter as well. Focus on anything newer than 2009 if you want to maximize the car’s fuel potential.
