A Brief History of the Ford Motor Company

Henry Ford grew up on a prosperous farm in Springwells Township, which is just outside of Detroit. He showed an early interest in machinery, and by the age of 15, he had already built himself a steam engine. From there, he would complete an apprenticeship at a machine shop, work on Westinghouse engines, and finally become an engineer at the Edison Illuminating Company.

Intrigued by gasoline engines, Henry Ford developed his first crude version in 1893 in his kitchen. After spending a great deal of time experimenting and refining gasoline engines, his first vehicle would be assembled in 1896 and dubbed the "Quadricycle." However, Ford's entry into the automotive world was rocky. His first attempt in 1899, the Detroit Automobile Company, went bankrupt just 18 months after it was founded. In 1901 he tried again with the Henry Ford Company, but Ford left that company in 1902, leading it to be renamed the Cadillac Automobile Company.

However, the third time was the charm, and in 1903 the modern Ford Motor Company opened its doors. Ford would introduce the legendary Model T in 1908, and it would become one of the most popular cars in the world, with a production of well over 15 million. In 1913, the Hyland Park plant in Michigan would begin operations and become the first moving automobile assembly line in the world. Ford would offer workers $5 for an eight-hour workday when most workers were getting $2.35 for a nine-hour workday.

During World War II, Ford retooled to produce military material and supplied the United States Army with everything from jeeps and trucks to tanks and strategic bombers. Civilian production would resume again in 1945 at the end of the war. Henry Ford would pass on in 1947, and Henry II would take over as CEO and Chairman.

The Ford Thunderbird and Edsel lines were introduced in 1955. The Thunderbird was a huge success, but the Edsel would be canceled in less than two years. The 1950s also saw Ford Motor Company make significant advancements in safety; it was now crash testing all of its vehicles. But perhaps Ford's greatest success was the 1964 Mustang, which created the pony car segment and was destined to become an American icon.

Ford had a serious impact on the auto industry in the 1960s. It saw that Baby Boomers had disposable income and that they were looking for a little edginess in their lives. Sales were declining as consumers moved away from reliable cars that were seen as boring; what people wanted in the 1960s were cars that were sporty, edgy, and beautiful. The Mustang was wildly popular, but Ford knew it needed to flood the market with sports cars as other manufacturers were following suit.

In the decades after the introduction of the Mustang, Ford would continue to make best-selling and beloved cars. In the 1970s, F-Series trucks would become the best-selling trucks of the decade and beyond. Some might think of the Taurus as a rather plain car when it was introduced in 1985, but it was the first rounded car to hit the market and would influence the competitors.

Ford was already producing electric vehicles and addressing environmental concerns long before concern for the environment peaked in the 2000s. Today, Ford remains one of the most admired and recognizable brands, and the company employs over 200,000 globally. Henry Ford was an innovative thinker, and the Ford Motor Company employs the same innovative thinking as its founder. What does the future hold for Ford? Nobody knows for sure, but we suspect continued excellence in the automotive industry.

New Models

Cincinnati shoppers can be assured that they will find the full lineup of brand-new Ford models when they visit our dealership. Here at Kings Ford, we are proud to carry all the latest Ford vehicles, from pickup trucks and SUVs to electric vehicles and sports cars! Here are just a few of our most popular models.

2022 Ford F-150

The 2022 F-150 is the latest version of America’s favorite pickup truck, and it is just as ready to overpower the competition as it has always been. After almost 50 years on the market, Ford’s half-ton truck is still raring to go and has more features and more power than ever before. With best-in-class payload, best-in-class towing, and best-in-class horsepower and torque, there is almost nothing that this mighty vehicle can not accomplish.

Of course, the F-150 is far more than just a powerful workhorse, and it is filled with forward-looking features designed to make your life on the road and at the job site easier than it has ever been. One of the truck’s newest features is its available PowerBoost full-hybrid powertrain. This first-in-class option combines Ford’s proven 3.5L EcoBoost V6 turbocharged gasoline engine with electric motors to produce an unbelievable 430 horsepower and 570 pound-feet of torque. Even better, the PowerBoost hybrid also gets 23 MPG combined, making it less expensive to run than some diesel trucks.

Inside the spacious cabin, the 2022 F-150 comes with a standard 8-inch infotainment touchscreen and an available 12-inch touchscreen, putting all your favorite tech at your fingertips. The truck also offers Ford’s latest SYNC 4 system, providing owners with over-the-air updates so that you always have the latest features available. However, the single most impressive feature is Ford’s new BlueCruise hands-free driving technology. Available on the Lariat trim and above, this cutting-edge feature allows for true hands-free driving on over 130,000 miles of pre-mapped highways across the country.

2022 Ford F-150 Lightning

The popular Ford F-150 is now available in electric form. Just because this model runs on electricity does not mean it isn't "Built Ford Tough" like all of Ford's other models. In fact, the 2022 Ford Lightning can tow up to 10,000 pounds and can haul up to 2,235 pounds of payload. The standard dual electric motors provide a staggering 580 horsepower and 775 pound-feet of torque.

This model can also handle off-roading conditions thanks to the instant torque from its 4x4 electric powertrain, combined with metal skid plates and underbody armor. The Lightning offers multiple drive modes, including off-roading mode, creating the optimal driving performance for any situation. When you drive a 2022 Ford Lightning, the speeds genuinely are lightning-fast, as you can get from 0 to 60 MPH in merely 4 seconds.

This model can act as a mobile power supply as well, and not just for smaller items. On a full charge, the Lightning can power an entire house for up to three days, lasting up to ten days using emergency power rationing. Whether you need to power a home or amp up a workstation, the Lightning can assist you.

Let's talk about technology here for a second. While the 2022 Ford Lightning includes several handy tech features, such as audio streaming and a large 15.5-inch infotainment screen, it also comes with several performance-focused technologies. First off, it uses Pro Trailer Hitch Assist to make trailer hookups a breeze. The days of backing up and getting in and out of your vehicle multiple times until you get the truck and trailer perfectly aligned are over.

Additionally, when it comes to towing, the Onboard Scales feature shows you real-time weight stats so that you don't overload your vehicle. This pairs nicely with Smart Hitch, a technology that determines proper weight distribution and acts as a guide for properly hooking up trailers and other loads. Pro Trailer Backup Assist and Trailer Reverse Guidance are there to help drivers better control the trailer's direction and clearly view their surroundings. For an eco-friendly and tech-savvy take on Ford's classic F-150 model, check out the 2022 Ford Lightning.

2022 Ford Ranger

The 2022 Ford Ranger is the middle-of-the-road pick in Ford’s truck lineup. Smaller than the F-150 and larger than the Maverick, the Ranger is a great fit for someone who needs a capable pickup but spends more time commuting than hauling. This model is particularly well-suited for Cincinnati drivers who are looking for a nimble truck to navigate the narrow streets of our city.

The Ranger is powered by a standard 2.3L EcoBoost engine that provides 270 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque––a best-in-class figure for a gasoline engine. The EcoBoost engine is also amazingly efficient, getting 23 MPG combined. This makes the Ranger the most efficient truck in the segment and will help save you money throughout the life of the vehicle. But power and efficiency can coexist in Ford’s world, and the Ranger is no weakling. In fact, its 1,905-pound payload rating is another best-in-class figure for this mighty midsize truck.

The 2022 model adds a new Splash special edition to the Ranger lineup, combining retro orange and black exterior graphics with unique orange-contrast stitching inside the cabin. For more adventurous drivers looking to explore beyond the Cincinnati city limits, the Ranger’s Tremor package makes this truck a top off-road option, adding tow hooks, Trail Control, upfitter switches, and more. From simple work truck to eager adventurer, there is a Ranger for every driver.

2022 Ford Maverick

In a world full of compact SUVs, Ford saw a missing opportunity for a compact truck. While there are several options for midsize, full-size, and heavy-duty truck options, the compact truck has yet to shine. That is, until the release of the new 2022 Ford Maverick.

The eco-friendliness doesn't just stop with the new Ford Lightning model. The Maverick is the first pickup truck to offer a standard hybrid drivetrain. However, you can also grab a 2.0L EcoBoost engine to reach a max towing capacity of 4,000 pounds. If you're more interested in cruising and minor towing, the hybrid option can still pull up to 2,000 pounds with ease.

Although a lower level than the Ford Lightning, the 2022 Maverick acts as a mini powerhouse. Between its 110-volt power outlets and two 12-volt bed wires, you can run everything from a phone charger to a mini-fridge if needed. While it can't power a house, it can certainly power a campsite.

With Ford Co-Pilot360 driver-assist technologies standard, the Maverick is just as at home on the highway as at the campsite. From Pre-Collision Assist with Automatic Emergency Braking to available Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop and Go, this affordable pickup has all the modern safety features that you need to feel secure wherever your travels take you. The Maverick is one truck you won't mind using for your daily commute.

Like the Ford Bronco Sport, the 2022 Maverick comes in a special First Edition trim. This Lariat First Edition model includes special customization features such as gloss black mirrors, a black roof, and 18-inch black wheels. You'll get First Edition badging with this model as well to show that you're one of the lucky ones. While this edition is fun, you don't have to spend much to make the Maverick an impressive model. Even the base-level XL trim includes standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, an 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot, and a standard FLEXBED.

What exactly is a FLEXBED? This is Ford's special cargo bed that was designed to handle multiple cargo types. It includes dividers that can be moved to match the spacing you need and is all ready for DIY conversions for specialized tasks. Whether you need the whole bed, a bike rack section, or a split divider, the FLEXBED is ready to load up.

This adventure truck is spacious despite its compact size, and not just because of its flexible cargo bed space. It also seats up to five people in the standard crew cab, and it even offers rear-seat storage at no additional cost. The compact truck you've been waiting for is here, thanks to the new Ford Maverick.

2022 Ford Bronco & Ford Bronco Sport

The Bronco name has always stood for adventure, and the latest members of the Bronco family are no exception. Reintroduced for the 2021 model year, the full-size Bronco and the compact Bronco Sport were instant hits, and they have only gotten better for 2022. Having trouble choosing between the two? The full-size Bronco is geared for adventures far beyond where the pavement ends. The smaller Bronco Sport is also off-road-ready, coming with standard 4x4, but it is equally adept on the streets of Cincinnati, combining a comfortable ride and nimble handling with good fuel economy.

The big news for the 2022 Ford Bronco is the addition of the new Bronco Raptor. This bulked-up version of the full-size Bronco has a reinforced frame for high-speed off-roading, a wider track for enhanced stability, and an even larger 3.0L EcoBoost V6 engine generating over 400 horsepower. If you have been waiting for the ultimate off-road adventurer, this is it. Although overshadowed by the Bronco Raptor, the 2022 Bronco also sees the addition of a new Everglades trim that is equipped for adventure straight from the factory. With a standard WARN winch kit and snorkel, the Everglades isn’t slowing down for anything.

If your off-roading is more on the casual side and you need an SUV that is at home in Cincinnati and its suburbs, then the 2022 Bronco Sport is worth a look. More rugged and capable than the other vehicles in its segment, the Bronco Sport brings a touch of the wilderness with you wherever you go. However, its compact frame has no problem squeezing into urban environments, and its 26 MPG combined fuel economy will be easier on your wallet than its big brother’s more fuel-hungry diet.

2022 Explorer

If you are looking for a family-friendly midsize SUV, then the 2022 Ford Explorer is hard to beat. With three rows of seats, 87.8 cubic feet of cargo space, and a towing capacity of up to 5,600 pounds, there is room for everybody and everything in the Explorer, whether you are taking the kids to school or setting out on a family vacation. Even better, its efficient 2.3L EcoBoost engine makes it one of the most efficient vehicles in the segment despite providing an above-average 300 horsepower.

For even more efficiency, check out the Explorer Hybrid. This model uses a hybrid V6 powertrain to get 27 MPG combined while still offering 318 horsepower and 5,000 pounds of towing capacity. Alternatively, if you want some high-speed thrills, the Explorer ST will put a smile on your face. This model comes with a specially-tuned 3.0L EcoBoost engine with an even 400 horsepower. Add the standard rear-wheel drive and sporty touches, and you get something truly special.

Having both a hybrid and a sport version of their family SUV might be enough for other manufacturers, but not Ford. The 2022 Explorer Timberline equips the model for off-road adventures, including steel underbody skid plates and a TORSEN limited-slip rear differential to take its 4x4 powertrain to the next level. For families that like to head out camping, hiking, or mountain biking on the weekend, the Explorer Timberline is an indispensable companion.

2021 Ford F-150

Ford's F-150 is not just the most popular vehicle in the Ford lineup; it is the most popular vehicle in America., The fully-redesigned 2021 F-150 brought forth several enhancements over the previous model. Ford has slowly been shifting its business practices over to a greener, emission-free future. Part of this business plan is to implement hybrid engines into current model lineups, and the results have been fascinating. One of the most notable improvements with the 2021 F-150 is the addition of a hybrid powertrain. While a change like this is monumental for the F-150, you can expect the best performance from this hybrid powertrain out of any other available engines for the vehicle.

The hybrid powertrain consists of a twin-turbocharged 3.5L V6 paired with electric motors to produce a total of 430 horsepower and 570 pound-feet of torque. With this incredible power, the hybrid powertrain in the F-150 allows for a maximum towing capacity of 12,700 pounds, and because it's not solely reliant on gasoline, it's extremely fuel-efficient as well. The hybrid F-150 comes in at 25 MPG city and 26 MPG highway, which is simply unheard of for any full-size pickup truck.

Ford understands that a large number of its drivers utilize their vehicles for workday tasks. In the days of old, bringing extra power to the worksite meant loading up your generator, eating into bed space and payload. Today, with the 2021 F-150, you can use the truck itself as a generator, thanks to the available ProPower onboard. The three generator sizes that you can select from include a massive 7.2 kW generator with a 240V/30A outlet on the F-150 Hybrid. There are also 2.4 kW and 2.0 kW generators with 120V/20A outlets that are available with the other engine options.

2021 Ford F-150 Raptor

The F-150 is widely versatile, and Ford offers this vehicle in several variants. One of the most notable and easily one of the most popular is the Ford F-150 Raptor. While the F-150 in its base form is an excellent off-road machine, the Raptor takes its performance to another level entirely. The Raptor first showed up to the scene starting with the 2010 F-150, and the 2021 model represents the first year of the fully-redesigned third generation. Off-roading enthusiasts are sure to flock to Ford's newest offering and take to the trails for years to come.

Among the additions made to the Raptor over the base F-150 are a distinctive suspension system unseen on the rest of the model lineup. The fully-redesigned independent rear suspension has been specially crafted to ensure stability on the trail, and the best-in-class 15-inches of suspension travel will allow the Raptor to climb over any obstacle. With the monstrous sounds emitted from the large 3-inch quad-mode exhaust, everyone will know that your truck means business. It's a sound that can't be understated and gives the Raptor a sense of power and dominance on the road.

2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E

The 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E is an all-new model and is part of Ford's mission to bring a plethora of electric vehicles to its lineup. Early adopters of the Mach-E were highly impressed with the sporty styling, futuristic-feeling interior, and incredible performance. One of the most incredible aspects of the Mach-E is its ability to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in a mere 3.5 seconds should you opt for the high-performance GT trim. The Mach-E's strong performance is further complemented by its exceptional efficiency. The available 98.8 kWh battery pack gives it a range of up to 300 miles on a single charge.

Another highlight of the Mustang Mach-E right out of the gate is the array of tech features that you'll find nestled within its interior. The highlight of this is the massive 15.5-inch infotainment center screen that comes standard with every trim. To appreciate the size differential between the Mach-E and some of its most noteworthy competitors, infotainment screens on the market typically range between 4.2-inches at the low end to 12-inches on the high-end. So the screen size here will be plenty for most people, as it's the size of many flagship laptops on the market today. There's plenty of customizability through the new SYNC 4 infotainment system, such as switching the ambient lighting colors in your cabin or listening to music, which will sound incredible through the available premium audio system by Bang & Olufsen.

2021 Ford Bronco

What was once a popular model by Ford, the Bronco was eventually lost to time and faded into obscurity after production halted in the mid-1990s. However, it has now returned to the limelight with a few new tricks in store. The 2021 Ford Bronco is the latest of this venerable model lineup and so far has impressed Ford fans, both old and new. If you're seeking off-roading excellence in a Ford vehicle, the Bronco is one of the best ways of achieving this as it includes plenty of features for such a task.

For starters, every Bronco comes equipped with a dedicated 4x4 system, which, as any off-roading enthusiast will know, is a must for consistent power and traction. Speaking of wheels, the 2021 Bronco comes standard with 16-inch wheels wearing 30-inch all-season tires. However, every trim of the 2021 Bronco can be outfitted with 35-inch mud-terrain tires on beadlock capable wheels. Another reason why the Bronco has become a top choice among off-road fans is that it includes G.O.A.T. (Goes Over Any Terrain) modes. Five modes come standard with additional modes available in the higher-tier trims, all of which are designed to give you the proper performance for various road and trail conditions.

2021 Ford Bronco Sport

Alongside the return of the Bronco, Ford also released the Bronco Sport, an all-new model with many of the off-roading capabilities that are seen on the traditional Bronco. You'll find the same G.O.A.T. modes as those found on the traditional Bronco, along with a standard 4x4 system. For achieving the best off-roading experience, there is a twin-clutch 4x4 system, along with an even finer tuned suspension that Ford calls the H.O.S.S. (High-Performance, Off-Road, Stability, Suspension system) to ensure your vehicle can handle harsh terrain.

There are two available powertrains for the Bronco Sport. The first of these two engines is a turbocharged 1.5L 3-cylinder with 8-speed automatic transmission and the ability to produce 181 horsepower and 190 pound-feet of torque. This engine is quite efficient, with EPA-estimated ratings of 25 MPG city and 28 MPG highway. That is particularly impressive when you consider that the Bronco Sport can only be purchased in a 4x4 configuration, which is typically known to offer lower fuel-efficiency ratings when compared to similar front-wheel drive models.

The second available engine for the Bronco Sport is another turbocharged engine, this one being a 2.0L 4-cylinder with 8-speed automatic transmission. The larger engine will produce a far more pronounced 250 horsepower and 277 pound-feet of torque. EPA-estimated ratings for this engine are also rather impressive, with the 2.0L 4-cylinder coming in at 21 MPG city and 26 MPG highway. Although the base 3-cylinder will make for a better choice for a commuter vehicle, the 4-cylinder provides superior off-road performance.

FAQs About Buying a Ford

Q: How Much Does It Cost to Lease a New Ford Vehicle?

A: Prices vary but are generally much lower than monthly loan payments. We calculate lease payments based on the vehicle’s sale price, the length of the lease, and how much value the vehicle is projected to lose during the lease term. Kings Ford believes in giving you the most quality for your dollar, so we can negotiate an excellent lease price that suits your budget.

Q: Should I Buy a New or Used Car?

A: There are pros and cons to each option. New cars offer the latest Ford engineering and technology. You’ll usually get higher horsepower and towing ratings than prior-year models offer. However, used cars are significantly cheaper because they are older and other drivers have already owned or leased them. If you want a like-new vehicle from a recent model year but want to save money, consider a Certified Pre-Owned Ford. These refurbished models seem practically brand-new but cost much less than actually buying new!

Q: How Easy Is It to Lease or Loan a Car?

A: The process is very simple. First, stop by Kings Ford or shop online to learn about the Ford vehicles in our inventory. We can walk you through our models based on your lifestyle and needs, or you can point us to the vehicles that you find appealing. We’ll walk you through different models, trims, and equipment to upgrade each car.

Then, our finance team will help you calculate what you can afford. Your budget should depend on your credit score, the amount you’d like to pay per month, and the amount you can pay up-front. Plus, if you’d like to trade in your current car, we can apply its value to anything in our inventory! We will compare your budget with the vehicles in our inventory, including the MSRP (suggested sale price), plus any additional upgrades or fees. We will also explain warranties and other coverage to protect your vehicle.

Once you’re approved for a loan or lease, we will work with you and any lenders to ensure you get the best deal possible. Of course, if you have any questions about the process, a member of our sales or finance team can assist you. Our goal is to make sure you walk away with the vehicle you want at a price point that works for you.

Should You Get a Lease or Loan?

One of the enduring perks of shopping for a Ford is this American auto brand’s outstanding value. Ford consistently delivers high-quality vehicles at low prices. In fact, it’s easier than ever to take home a Ford at a price that works for you. The most common options for purchase are either leasing or getting a loan for your new vehicle. These ownership options vary in many ways, including price and the average ownership term.

Once you find a Ford vehicle that you love, you’ll need to decide whether to lease or get a loan and then get help from finance experts to pursue each route. However, it’s important to closely consider each option. Before you enter into an arrangement that doesn’t suit you, carefully review the key differences between leasing and loaning. Of course, you can also discuss these arrangements with our finance associates.

Getting a Loan for a Ford Vehicle

Getting a loan for a vehicle is essentially “buying” a car. Rather than paying cash for the full value of the vehicle, you get assistance from a lender. Because most Americans can’t drop the tens of thousands of dollars needed to purchase a new car in one day, loans are extremely common. A lender covers the difference between the model’s total cost and any money you “put down” (pay upfront) when you make a purchase.

When you take out a loan for a vehicle, you can cover the costs of the vehicle that would otherwise be outside your budget. As said above, cars are usually too expensive for the average American to pay cash for. At Kings Ford, our finance team can help you get approval for a loan at an attractive, low monthly rate. You’ll pay down the loan and interest on a monthly basis until your loan is paid in full.

When you get a loan on a Ford, the vehicle is yours. While a lender will technically hold onto the title until you pay off your loan in full (which usually takes several years), you will still have the freedom of ownership. You can customize, upgrade, and change your vehicle to your liking. Plus, maintenance of the vehicle is up to your discretion and budgetary concerns.

Benefits of Leasing a Ford Vehicle

When you lease a vehicle, you essentially “borrow” it from the dealership. You are given a certain length of time—usually two or three years—to drive the vehicle, after which you must return it to the dealership. Lease payments are generally made monthly, just like loan payments; however, they are usually smaller.

While this arrangement certainly offers a bit less freedom than taking a loan on a Ford car, truck, or SUV, there are distinct advantages. First of all, leasing a car, truck, or SUV offers great value. Ford’s lineup of new vehicles is already available at outstanding prices, but the option to lease offers you even greater monthly savings.

Because you don’t get to keep a vehicle that you lease indefinitely, dealerships offer incentives to leasing. Primarily, you pay far less to “rent” the vehicle than you would to “purchase” it. This doesn’t just refer to long-term costs. Monthly lease payments are, on average, significantly cheaper than auto loan payments.

You still have access to a wide inventory of new Ford models. However, you’ll pay much less. Plus, you’ll have the option to trade in your vehicle for a newer, better model when your lease term ends! For example, every two years or so, you could drive the latest model.

Blue & Gold Certified Certified Pre-Owned Vehicles

If you want like-new quality at a lower price, then consider Ford’s Certified Pre-Owned (CPO) program. All Ford CPO models are technically used vehicles, but they must meet stringent standards set out by Ford, and they come with additional factory warranties and other benefits. Unlike most manufacturers, Ford actually offers two different levels of CPO models, allowing us to give Cincinnati drivers even more options to choose from.

Ford Gold Certified is your traditional CPO program. Only Ford models are eligible, and they must be no more than six years old and have fewer than 80,000 miles on them. All Gold Certified vehicles must then pass a detailed 172-point inspection by our trained technicians before being made available for sale. When you buy one of these high-quality vehicles, you will also receive a 7-year/100,000-mile powertrain limited warranty and a 12-month/12,000-mile comprehensive limited warranty, as well as complimentary roadside assistance and other benefits.

Ford Blue Certified is a more accessible alternative that splits the difference between traditional CPO programs and your standard used car. Any make and model can receive Ford’s Blue Certified stamp of approval, but they still must be less than ten years old, have fewer than 120,000 miles, and pass a 139-point inspection. These models come with a Ford-backed 90-day/4,000-mile comprehensive limited warranty and 14-day/1,000-mile money-back guarantee, along with other handy benefits.
