The 2019 Ford EcoSport vs 2019 Honda HR-V are often compared in the subcompact class. They are both efficient, safe, and advanced vehicles that are becoming increasingly popular models among consumers. However, the EcoSport and HR-V each have their own unique sets of strengths.

The 2019 Ford EcoSport is a surprisingly capable vehicle among its contenders in the subcompact class, offering a maximum towing capacity of up to 2,000 LBS. To produce this high level of capability, the EcoSport offers a 2.0L 4-cylinder engine which offers up to 166 hp and 149 lb-ft torque. On the inside, the EcoSport features a wide selection of advanced standard and available entertainment features, as well as numerous driver assist features.

Meanwhile, the 2019 Honda HR-V focuses on its efficiency, offering fuel efficiency ratings of up to 28 mpg in the city and 34 mpg on the highway. The HR-V also offers a nice selection of available driver assist technology through its Honda Sensing safety suite including lane departure warning and forward collision warning. However, the 2019 Honda HR-V is the more expensive option out of these two subcompact SUVs.

Overall, both the 2019 Ford EcoSport and 2019 Honda HR-V are excellent choices, among others, in their class. However, with such varying strengths, it will come down to your personal preferences, budget, and needs to make a decision between these two. So, let’s take a closer look at what the 2019 Ford EcoSport and 2019 Honda HR-V have to offer.

  • Performance

In terms of performance, both the 2019 Ford EcoSport and 2019 Honda HR-V have different strengths. While the 2019 Ford EcoSport is incredibly capable, the 2019 Honda HR-V is the more efficient vehicle. In this category, deciding between the EcoSport and HR-V ultimately depends on your personal preferences.

    2019 Ford EcoSport

The 2019 Ford EcoSport features two engine options for drivers to choose from, including a 1.0L 3-cylinder engine and a 2.0L 4-cylinder engine. Drivers prioritizing fuel economy will want to opt for the 1.0L 3-cylinder engine which produces up to 27 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway. However, if you’re looking for quick acceleration and improved handling, you’ll want to choose the 2.0L 4-cylinder engine which produces up to 166 hp and 149 lb-ft torque. However, the most impressive aspect of the EcoSport’s performance is its capability. The 2019 Ford EcoSport has a maximum towing capacity of 2,000 LBS when equipped with its 2.0L 4-cylinder engine. These are incredible specs for the subcompact SUV class and even rival many vehicles in the compact class. This makes the EcoSport one of the most versatile vehicles in its class and helps to increase its value.

    2019 Honda HR-V

The 2019 Honda HR-V offers only one engine, a 1.8L 4-cylinder engine. This engine provides below average power for the subcompact class, producing only 141 hp. Drivers and critics note that the HR-V is slow to accelerate and can be quite uncomfortable on bumpy rides, but this SUV does offer all of the responsive handling expected from a vehicle of the subcompact class. Unlike the 2019 Ford EcoSport, the new HR-V is not the most capable vehicle on the road, making it a much less versatile option. However, it does offer high fuel economy ratings at up to 28 mpg in the city and 34 mpg on the highway. For drivers prioritizing efficiency, the 2019 Honda HR-V is a suitable option, however if you’re looking for a little bit of power and plenty of capability in your new vehicle, the 2019 Ford EcoSport could be your ideal vehicle.

  • Entertainment

Both the 2019 Ford EcoSport and 2019 Honda HR-V seat up to five passengers, and whether you’re looking to fill each seat regularly or simply use the vehicle for your daily commutes, having an intuitive infotainment system is important. When it comes to the EcoSport and HR-V, the HR-V simply does not offer as generous of an entertainment suite as the 2019 Ford EcoSport.

    2019 Ford EcoSport

The 2019 Ford EcoSport offers several standard entertainment features on its base model. These include a touchscreen display for use of the SYNC infotainment system, two USB ports, and a 6-speaker sound system. Optional entertainment features are incredibly advanced and include Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, satellite radio, navigation, an 8-inch touchscreen, HD radio, a built-in WiFi hotspot, and a 9-speaker sound system. With the low starting MSRP of the 2019 Ford EcoSport at just $19,995, this is an impressive list of standard features and makes upgrading to even more advanced features incredibly affordable.

    2019 Honda HR-V

The 2019 Honda HR-V does not offer many standard entertainment features for its base model. In fact, on the HR-V only one USB port is offered and drivers are even forced to upgrade to a higher trim level to enjoy a 6-speaker sound system, which is usually a standard feature in most vehicles. Other standard features on the 2019 Honda HR-V include Bluetooth and a 5-inch audio display, but that’s really all you’ll find on the base model. Even the available features on the 2019 Honda HR-V are lacking and include only a 6-speaker sound system, an additional USB port, navigation, and satellite radio. However, upgrading to a higher trim level will also include a 7-inch touchscreen display, which is an exciting enhancement compared to the standard audio display.

However, it is important to note that the HR-V is the more expensive vehicle between these two SUVs. So, if you’re looking to purchase any of the available entertainment features to make your cabin more modern, you’re looking at a substantial jump in price. Overall, the 2019 Ford EcoSport offers a much better value and will allow you to upgrade to incredibly advanced entertainment features at a much lower price.

  • Safety

Whether you have a vehicle full of passengers or are simply commuting by yourself, safety is an incredibly important feature. Thankfully, both the 2019 Ford EcoSport and 2019 Honda HR-V offer a full suite of safety features across their varying trim levels. However, the EcoSport is far more cost effective and offers more on its base model than the HR-V.

    2019 Ford EcoSport

The 2019 Ford EcoSport offers several standard and available safety features onboard across its four trim levels. On its base model, the EcoSport offers a rearview camera and MyKey which allows drivers to set volume and speed restrictions for other drivers. This technology is especially helpful for the parents of teen drivers, as it allows parents to ensure that their children are practicing safe driving habits. MyKey can also be useful in the event that someone needs to borrow your vehicle. For optional safety features, the 2019 Ford EcoSport offers blind spot monitoring, rear parking sensors, and rear cross traffic alert.

    2019 Honda HR-V

The 2019 Honda HR-V comes standard with an advanced rearview camera, but to enjoy additional safety features you’ll have to upgrade to a higher trim level. For an additional cost, drivers can enjoy a truly comprehensive safety suite, called Honda Sensing, which includes a variety of driver assist technology like lane keep assist, lane departure warning, forward collision warning, and adaptive cruise control. However, upgrading to these features requires drivers to invest in the 3rd trim level, which increases the starting MSRP to $23,720. Overall, both vehicles offer advanced safety tech, however the 2019 Ford EcoSport is by far the most cost-effective option and provides plenty of technology onboard its base model.
